Okay today’s sandwich goes back in time close to six years ago!

Back then I was going to take a tour of the Unclaimed Freight Store on Adams Street in downtown Peoria and on my way out I had to get a pork chop sandwich from Willie’s Tamale Cart which was standing in its usual spot just outside of the store.

Below are some pictures from that day and a link to the original post, so check it out. Or, if you don’t want to, then do something else. I, for one, don’t really care anymore! So there!

Here we are at UFS, Unclaimed Freight Store which has been standing tall in downtown Peoria for decades. If you take a look over there to the right and you’ll see one of the first food carts ever created here in Peoria, and that would be…

Willie’s Tamales Food Cart! They’ve been selling delicious food here in the UFS parking lot for years. It was founded by Willie Smith who has since passed away.

I found out on this day, that his daughter, Nicole is keeping it all in the family, as she was running Willie’s Tamale Cart on the day I was hanging out there.

I ordered one of their famous pork chop sandwiches and she went into action to make that happen.

Here she is seasoning and cooking the pork chop sandwich up with expertise that has been handed down through the family.

After a generous dollop of mustard, the pork chop sandwich is served!

It’s time to present this week’s Sandwich of Peoria!

I took the sandwich to the MBIP Moblie and this was dashboard dining at its finest hour!

The pork chop was seasoned perfectly and it was savory, juicy and delicious. The bun was bakery fresh and this is one excellent sandwich.

I need to return to get another one of these, someone told me the cart is still in service down at UFS, so go and check it out for yourself. And maybe get a tamale or two while you’re there!
