A Guy Walks Into 365 Bars…Again! Bar Number 238: Sombrerito Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill

by MBIP

I was hungry for Mexican food last Saturday so I went to my old friend Google and found a Mexican restaurant in East Peoria that I had never heard of or been to.

The restaurant is Sombrerito Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill and as you can tell from the title, there is a bar there and so that will be our 238th stop of this 365 tour.

Bar Number 238: Sombrerito Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill, Saturday, October 17, 2026

Here we are at Sombrerito Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill in East Peoria. Everything was fine till I stepped in the door and sat at the bar.

Things went badly and I have to resort to something that hasn’t happened on this blog since back on this very date, eleven years ago. On October 19, 2015, we presented the first edition of the MBIP Stickman Theater.

Sadly, because of what happened this evening, we now present the second edition of MBIP Stickman Theater. Follow along and all will be explained!

Welcome to the MBIP Stickman Theater.

This episode is: Bar 238 - Sombrerito Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill.

I walked in and sat down at their cozy, but well-stocked bar and ordered a margarita from the friendly bartender on duty. I was the only one at the bar and some people were seated in a dining area behind me.

The bartender happily delivered me a large margarita and all was going smoothly.

Then I handed him an MBIP business card, tried to explain that I was doing a blog in there and that this would be our 238th bar of our 365 tour and I asked if I could take his photo.

He looked at the card, frowned and said he’d have to talk to someone and quickly walked away.

A few minutes went by and I sipped at my margarita while hoping we could resolve this. I always like to get the photos out of the way and then relax a little bit while I wait for dinner.

After about six long minutes a woman came over to the bar holding my card and said to me, “So you’re starting your own bar?”

Somehow, my doing a blog got mixed up into I was opening up a bar.

I tried to explain to her that I was doing a blog and I could tell she had no idea what in the fuck I was talking about and it seemed to cause her anxiety and she seemed a little troubled by my explanation.

The more I tried to explain that a blog was an online thing with photos, the more confused and upset she seemed to be. She looked at me like I had said, “I like to eat diarrhea out of Satan’s asshole.”

After a few minutes she said that I’d have to talk to the manager. I asked where the manager was and she said he was on the way and would be here in a few minutes.

“So I can talk to him then?” I asked.

“He’ll be here soon,” she said while still looking at me strangely like I was covered in festering mucus and then she walked away.

So I sat there and waited for the manager to arrive so I could get my photos done and get out of there. Quite frankly, this place was started to give me the creeps. I kept asking the bartender and other people if the manager was around and the answer was always, “He’ll be here soon.”

Eventually I ordered dinner. I had cheese dip to start out with. It was a small cup of melted cheese and it was rich and delicious and served with warm tortilla chips.

For my main course I ordered the Tacos de Adobada which were three chicken tacos in soft tortilla wraps. The chicken is marinated in Adobada sauce and it gave them a nice spicy and tangy flavor. It came with a side of rice and beans. I ate the rice and wisely ignored the beans.

The manager never did arrive.

I finished dinner and the bartender brought my check with a smile.

I asked him if the manager ever showed up and he just said, “No.”

I asked him if there actually was a manager and he squinted his eyes at me and said, “I don’t know,” and pushed the check at me on the bar.

I then asked the bartender, “Could I just take a photo of the bar?”

He squinted his eyes at me, pushed the check closer to me and just said, “No, I’m sorry.”

I paid the check, drove home and then wondered if Satan actually does ever get diarrhea. Some questions may never be answered and that’s just life I guess.

This concludes another MBIP Stickman Theater episode. Goodnight and good luck everyone!

The Drinks

I had one jumbo margarita that was probably equal to three drinks. It was huge.
