Sandy’s Drive-In brings back fond, fun and tasty memories to most Peorian’s who were living here when we had several of the unique hamburger drive-in restaurants in operation in this city.
The one I remember the best was the Sandy’s across from Sheridan Village. I have a lot of memories of shopping at Sheridan Village with my mom and other members of my family and then stopping at Sandy’s for lunch or maybe to pick up dinner.
I found some photos of Sandy’s online and most of them are from the Sandy’s Drive-In on Sheridan Road.
Plus there’s a trio of Sandy’s ads, some photos from my blog after it became a Dairy Queen and three videos with vintage Sandy’s TV commercial and an explanation as to what happened to Sandy’s Drive-In!
Scroll down and take trip back in time here in Peoria!

They billed themselves as the “Thrift & Swift Drive-In.”
And now of course I have to ask: “Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?”

LATER ON IT TURNED INTO A DAIRY QUEEN
Decades later, I took shots of the Sandy’s building on Sheridan Road after it was transformed into a Dairy Queen.
Inside I found the same wooden beams from the old Sandy’s era, which was cool. You can see more photos at the original post by clicking right here.
Then a few years later, they tore this historic Peoria building down to make way for…

They Tore Down this Historic building for…
Another Dairy Queen…which caused me to think, “What in the actual fuck?”
The other building was in great shape and an historical Peoria place, so why tear it down to put up the same type of business?
I’ll never understand this!

My friend Kevin, who we last saw at One World Kitchen when he made us a lovely pizza pie, has undergone hip surgery. He’s going to be out of work for a while and could use some financial help to keep him going till he can get back to work.
An online fundraiser has been set up by Kevin’s mom and if you have some extra funds and can help Kevin out that would be fabulous! Let’s help Kevin out and hopefully soon he’ll be back at work, preparing and cooking some wonderful food at One World Cafe!
Just click on this link if you can donate to help Kevin out.
Cheers to a speedy recovery, Kevin and hope to see you soon!
