We’re starting a new Tuesday food tour, but don’t blink or you’ll miss it! It’s a three week local sauce tour.
What happened was that I finished the Spinal Rib tour the other week and that left me with a few weeks before Memorial Day, when I start the annual MBIP Dog Days of Summer Tour - 2025. I’m taking a week off from the blog before that, so that left me with three Tuesdays to fill up before the hot dog tour starts.
I was trying to figure out what to do and my friends Amber and Joe gave me a bottle of BBQ sauce that’s a local Peoria BBQ sauce. It’s called Lovingood’s BBQ Sauce and the couple that own Lovingood Food’s are Peorians.
Brenda Lovingood is the President and CEO and her husband, Thomas is the Vice President of the company. Their pictures are courtesy of their website and you can read their story by clicking here. You can also read about them in an article that was written by Emily Potts for Peoria Magazine.
There’s three Peoria sauces that I’m going to feature on this saucy trifecta tour and we’re starting off with the Sweet & Fiery BBQ Sauce from Lovingood Food’s!
I found a recipe online for baking chicken wings, so I thought I’d use them as vessels to sample this local Peoria BBQ sauce.
I’ve never made chicken wings on the blog, so this is a first. I dipped them in flour and then put them on a cupcake rack so they wouldn’t be laying pan-down on one side while baking.
The recipe said to bake them at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes, so in the oven they go!
I have some wings left over, so we’ll freeze them for the upcoming pair of sauce weeks here on MBIP.
I was in Walgreens shortly before I did this episode and picked up a box of Tontino’s Pizza Rolls to have as a side dish.
I figured we could dip these into the BBQ sauce. They’re in the microwave right now. Everything is coming together perfectly! What a day!
Okay, the chicken wings are done and they look absolutely delightful. We’ll go ahead and sauce them up and plate this debut sauced-up dinner!
There you have it, the sauced up dinner number one: Chicken Wings covered in Lovingood’s Sweet & Fiery BBQ Sauce and Totino’s Pizza Rolls surrounding a bowl of the locally produced BBQ Sauce.
Let’s dig in and sauce it up all at the same time!
The Totino’s Pizza Rolls were a last minute addition, but they were a tasty treat and this sauce is fabulous!
It’s the perfect blend of sweet and heat.
The sweet flavor hits you first and then the heat rolls in after for a wonderful combination of flavors. This is really a unique and wonderful tasting BBQ sauce and it’s Peoria made!
Now we’ll move on to the star of the show, our homemade chicken wings dressed with this week’s sauce!
The wings taste fabulous and this is the best BBQ Sauce I have ever had!
I love the flavorful sweet and heat combination and it’s really a unique and sensational flavored sauce! It really compliments the chicken wings and this has really been a tasty treat and a fabulous start to this saucy Peoria tour!

The Saucy Rating
This is a fabulous and tasty BBQ Sauce and I love the subtle sweet and heat taste that happens with every bite of it.
I’ll give this a high saucy rating of three and three quarters Otis Cambpells!
We’re off to a fabulous start with this sauced-up tour! Two more weeks to go!
