Back on March 14, 2014, we went to Peru, Illinois for the very first road trip on the Year of Pizza food tour.
MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley was driving and let’s get back to this Peru post from the past right now.
Oh Sherman, I think you know what to do here….
Please set the Wayback Machine for March 14, 2014 and…
Poof, there’s Scott behind the wheel. skillfully guiding us to…
Peru, Illinois and we wound up at…
The legendary Lou’s La Grotto!
I was sad that their neon lights weren’t on and hoped that when we left it would be a different story.
Okay, in we go!
It was crowded in there that day, but we squeezed into two seats at the bar.
And there’s bartender Sam serving up the first beer of the day with a pretty smile.
There’s Rachel and Jasmine looking super-cute in their Lou’s La Grotto t-shirts!
And before you know it, Sam is serving up the pizza pie!
There’s the stars of the show, two pizzas from Lou’s La Grotto!
We got a regular pie and a deep dish pizza
Usually I steer clear of deep dish pizzas, but this is one of their specialty’s, so we surrendered and ordered one.
Both slices were fantastic! This is freshly-baked pizza pie at it’s finest hour!
The pizza pies are homemade with fresh crusts and toppings and these were delicious pizza pies!
They were also filling!
Scott and I filled two Lou’s La Grotto pizza boxes with leftover pizza!
And when we left the neon was blazing!
Such a beautiful sight!!
