This week’s Places in Peoria episode is very exciting. Most of you have listened and enjoyed the always entertaining and informative Greg and Dan Show on WMBD Radio. Maybe you follow them on facecrack and have seen photos from the show. Well for most people, that’s the only behind-the-scenes look that you’re going to get from The Greg and Dan Show because they don’t allow just anyone into their radio lair, which is known is certain secret circles as, “The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra-Secret Radio Cave!” But that all changes today, as I enter, armed with the official MBIP Camera to visit and document: The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! Cue exciting music here!
Here we are in beautiful downtown Peoria and there’s the giganzo Alpha Media Building that houses the The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! And you may notice that when I type the title, The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! it always has an exclamation mark behind it. That’s just the rules. As you can see on the board when you enter, most people aren’t welcomed inside at The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! But today that all changes!
Okay, I can’t give out what floor they’re located on, but there’s Vito who sits behind bullet-proof glass and throws most people out of the window when they ask to go any further, but since I’ve got clearance, we’re now moments away from entering The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! As you can see, the door isn’t too welcoming, but I’m going in anyway. As Tom Petty once said before he died, “Damn the torpedoes!”
We’re inside! And somewhere in the shadows are the hosts of the Greg and Dan Show, Greg and Dan. It would be funny if the hosts of The Greg and Dan Show were actually named Stevie and Ray, but that’s not the case, so let’s just keep moving along here.
Here’s one half of this secretive duo, Greg Batton! Greg is a talented broadcaster who’s so proud of his fingers he’s constantly pointing at them. You don’t see finger pride a lot these days and I for one, love it!
This is the other half of this jolly broadcasting duo, Dan DiOrio. One of Dan’s many talents is his ability to speak through his left facial cheek as you can see him doing in the top photo. Unlike Greg, Dan’s not overly proud of his fingers, but he does enjoy showing off his left foot. I wonder why he keeps the shoe on the right foot? This just crossed my mind and I’m awfully sorry that it did.
One of the many Greg and Dan fans!
Inside the The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! are portals to adjoining rooms. The first one is where they keep their producer Corey locked up in and the other is where newswoman Julia Bradley is chained to her chair. The third portal is a view of downtown Peoria which neither Corey or Julia have seen for over seven long years.
There’s a pile of bobble-head dolls over here, let’s take a look at them.
This is a headless doll with the name of the former sports editor for the PJ Star, Kirk Wessler on it. Dan handed me this Hillary bobble head and when you add it to Wessler’s body you get Kirked Hillary! Expect this to show up on President Trump’s Twitter feed any moment now.
Check this out, it’s another longtime broadcasting veteran in the Peoria area, Scott Robbins! Scott is a veteran broadcaster here at WMBD and can be heard on the Markley & Van Camp show and this can only lead to...
A viewing of one of my all-time favorite photos I’ve ever taken: Scott and Jamie strangling each other at a meet and greet for a Van Halen show at the Peoria Civic Center quite a little while ago!
Remember at the top of this post I said it would be funny if the hosts of the Greg and Dan show were named Stevie and Ray? Well, look, I found Ray!
Extreme Greg Batton close-up!
This is the infamous Big Black Couch and star of Greg’s Big Black Couch, one of the more awkward and uncomfortable shows on the internet. Check out the episodes right here: Greg’s Big Black Couch.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, Greg and Dan get ready for my segment and the reason they let me into The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave!, we’re going to be talking about my upcoming one man show that has four people in it, The Marty Monologues! It’s always fun going on The Greg and Dan Show and this morning was no exception to that rule! We had a lot of fun and I got to make Greg nervous that their FCC license might get yanked! At the end of the segment I presented them with a gift for The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave!…
It’s a box of white balls! I have some of these and find it comforting to put a couple of them in my hands and relax as I tenderly hold my white balls in the palm of my hand. Suddenly out of nowhere two miniature Greg and Dan cardboard models appear, which is a sign my time is about up here in The Greg and Dan Supersonic & Ultra Secret Radio Cave! You learn to know these signals at the Greg and Dan Show or you sleep with the fishes!
As you can see, it looks like they’ve just about had it with me and the MBIP Camera for the day! Thanks Greg and Dan for the fun morning and enjoy your white balls!
Check it out, on the way back outside I ran into WMBD traffic reporter Ken Zurski who we profiled last week and he bought a ticket to The Marty Monologues and he made sure to pose with it in perfect product placement mode! That’s a copy of Ken’s new book, The Unremembered, which you should buy...right after you pick up a ticket for The Marty Monologues! And let me note that tickets for The Marty Monologues are available at: Acme Comics, Kenny’s Westside Pub, Lit. on Fire Used Books and Relics Gift Shop. Thanks for buying the ticket, Ken and thanks again to Greg and Dan for another fun visit on their show! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
