Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, The Last Chance Bar & Grill with special guest stars, Ben, Sam, Angie, Amber, Joe and Todd! And now, please welcome this week’s host, The Last Chance Bar & Grill!
Here we go on our fifth vegetarian Saturday night meal out of twelve. As usual, the man who thought of doing this vegetarian series, Ben Lowery is driving and here he is behind the wheel! Ben’s also a DJ known as B Löwd and if you’d like to see him in action, he’s going to be appearing at Kenny’s Westside Pub on New Year’s Eve. You can check out the details here.
It’s kind of a sad and lonely road leading to The Last Chance, but once you make it there, you’re treated to the sight of one of my favorite neon signs in the area. I also like the Michelob Ultra window, next to the front door. As you can see, Ben is leading the way inside.
As we make our way inside, I see a familiar face behind the bar, it’s Sam, who was bartending the last time we were in here on a Saturday night. Great to see her and usually I’d sit at the bar, but we’re meeting other friends here tonight, so we’ll head off to the back room. I’m hoping the booth in the corner is available.
Hooray, it’s available and there’s Angie at the back bar with an ice-cold bottle of Budweiser at the ready! She’s going to be our waitress and it turns out she’s a vegetarian, so it’s perfect for our vegetarian Saturday night dinner! I love it when things work out like this. The other guests are on their way, so I’m going to abandon Ben at our corner booth and take a few photos while they’re on their way.
There’s a back smoking area directly behind us and tables line one side of the wall back here. There’s stools and a long seating area on the opposite side of the room.
I think the bar in here is one of the longest bars in Peoria, if not the longest, some day I need to check that out. There’s the kitchen area in the back beyond the bar and in my travels I ran into Justin who told me that his great-grandfather was the original owner of this place. He told me it’s been here on this corner for over 30 years, I had no idea it has been here that long. Oh the things you learn while wandering around taking photos!
Meanwhile, back at our booth, the rest of our party has arrived! From left it’s Joe, Amber and Todd! Great to see them and we placed our order with Angie. In addition to eating vegetarian, we’re also ordering breakfast items, which is a first here on a Saturday night and I’m excited about it!
One thing that bothered me is the disproportionate size of this ketchup bottle in comparison with the mustard bottle. I ordered a pancake, so I won’t be using either one and while I’m happy about that, this is disturbing to me and it will bother me for quite a little while.
How’s this for service, here’s Angie and Sam with our breakfast dinners!
We each ordered something different and we’re all going to share, let’s take a look at all this breakfast goodness on our corner table!
Check out the size of that pancake! I’m glad I just ordered one! We also got the vegetarian skillet, breakfast burritos and hash browns, a fried egg, more hash browns and...bacon? Yeah, I know it’s a vegetarian post, but we’ll pretend like it’s tofu bacon and just keep moving along here!
Amber ordered French Toast, which is pretty timely considering what day it is today!
Everything looks so good, but the thing that looked the best are these fried biscuits. They’re deep-fried and covered with brown sugar, maple syrup and if that wasn’t enough, Angie brought us some chocolate sauce to drizzle on top. These look so sweet and delicious!
You can read more about our breakfast meal in the review below, but it was such a tasty and satisfying meal! The eggs and vegetables were done perfectly and a nice savory balance to the sugar and sweetness of the fried biscuits, pancake and French toast. All that sugar and sweetness can only lead to one thing...
Insane sugar shot! This was a wonderful meal and we had a lot of fun! Thanks to Sam and Angie and everyone at The Last Chance for great food and hospitality and thanks to Ben, Amber, Joe and Todd for joining us for dinner and fun! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
The Last Chance Bar & Grill is one of the few places I know of to get a nighttime breakfast meal. And their breakfast menu is huge and loaded with tasty selections ranging from eggs to pancakes to French toast to breakfast burritos and everything in between! We got ordered a variety of items and they were all delicious and made for a unique and tasty Saturday night meal. I hadn’t had a pancake in years and it was really fluffy, light and tasty. The breakfast veggie skillet was a nice potpourri of food including two eggs, American fries, cheese, onions, tomato, green pepper and melted cheese. Everything was so delicious but for me the highlight were the fried biscuits! They were delicious orbs of deep-fried dough dusted with powdered sugar and the chocolate sauce drizzled on top really put them over the tastebud limits! Amber hit it on the head when she said they tasted like a cross between a funnel cake and a corn fritter.
Four Galloping Gourmets—The Last Chance has other items on the menu including, burgers, wings, sandwiches, soup and salad, but if you haven’t tried a breakfast meal out here, I highly recommend you try it out soon!
