Eating Peoria, One Bite At A Time: Fedora’s

One of the more poignant and memorable stops on my 365 bar crawl adventure was at Fedora’s Bar in the West Village of New York City. Fedora was such a cool woman and she took the time to hang out with me for a whole afternoon and told me so many fun stories about her bar and New York from days gone by. Both Fedora and her bar are gone now and New York is worse off for this fact. I recently drove by a Fedora’s restaurant here in Peoria and I’ve asked a few people about it and the food there is supposed to be good. I’ve heard that the pizza is homemade and delicious. I’ve been craving pizza today, so that’s where we’ll be taking one bite out of Peoria on this episode...to the MBIP mobile!

Okay, we're cruising down University and there's Fedora's on the corner.

3. parking_sept26.jpg

They have their own parking lot, so let's park and get this thing rolling.

4. hereweare_sept26.jpg

There's Fedora's in all its glory, the sign says open...

5. door_sept26.jpg

So let's go in and see what's going on inside of Fedora's.

6. nicenofrills_sept26.jpg

It's a nice, no frills kind of joint inside of here. Let's go up to the counter.

7. john_sept26.jpg

This is John who's worked here for over 18 years. He told me Fedora's has been in business for over 28 years and they've been in this location for about 18 years. They also have a restaurant in Chillicothe that's been in operation for about 21 years.

8. menu_sept26.jpg

As you can see, there's lots of sandwiches available on the menu...

9. pizza_sept26.jpg

But I came for a pizza and I'm keeping it simple, I ordered up a small cheese pizza from John.

Before John went back to cook up the pizza, I snapped a photo of his Keef ring. Cool!

11. obligatory_sept26.jpg

Obligatory kitchen window mirror shot!

12. firsthe_sept26.jpg

There's John saucing up the pizza pie. He told me the dough for the pizza is homemade and made daily, no frozen stuff going on here.

13. cheesy_sept26.jpg

Here comes the cheese...

14. piling_sept26.jpg

And John is piling it high on the pie. I can't wait to see the finished results of this.

15. opvne_sept26.jpg

Okay, the pie is in the oven, let's take a look around Fedora's as it bakes.

17. great_sept26.jpg

Well now, that's quite the boastful poster.

18. review_sept26.jpg

Here's a 1994 review by Sally McKee from the PJ Star giving Fedora's a glowing review.

19. popeye_sept26.jpg

This Olive Oil poster is giving me a Popeye flashback. I yam what I yam!

20. ceilignfan_sept26.jpg

A ceiling fan whirrs overhead as I wait for the pizza to finish cooking.

21. nabil_sept26.jpg

Just as John was taking the pizza out of the oven, Nabil walked in the door. Nabil is the son of the owner, Paul Khourisader and he's worked here his whole life. He's a really nice guy and I love to see businesses in Peoria where the next generation is poised to carry on the family business.

22. bob_sept26.jpg

Here's Rob, who's a regular here at Fedora's and was getting ready to order up a roast beef sandwich.

23. pizzatogo_sept26.jpg

Wow, the pizza looks amazing. I like to let pizza cool off, so I got it to go and we can eat it at the MBIP Headquarters.

24. yourtwer_sept26.jpg

You're welcome.

25. sheesh_sept26.jpg

YOU'RE WELCOME! Sheesh! Enough's enough!

26. offwego_sept26.jpg

And it's off we go, back to where we started out from.

27. ridingshotgun_sept26.jpg

The pizza pie is riding shotgun opposite the driver's seat.

28. mbip_sept26.jpg

Alright, we're back in the tasting corner of MBIP Headquarters and I've peppered the tasty looking pizza up. It's nice and cool and I am starvin' like Marvin over here!

29. slice_sept26.jpg

The slice looks great, not too thick and not too thin, let's take a bite.

30. hey_sept26.jpg

It's delicious, a wonderful homemade pie. It's not fast food and it is definitely worth the wait. We'll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let's be careful out there.
