A Guy Walks Into 365 Bars…Again! Bar Number 149: The Rail Splitter

by MBIP

One fun thing about this bar tour is going back to bars that I haven’t been to in years. Tonight is one of those bars and that bar is The Rail Splitter in Mossville

I last visited this bar with MBIP pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley back in 2017. We celebrated his birthday that evening and had a great evening there.

And then I never went back.

Well, to quote Rod The Mod, tonight’s the night! It’s off to The Rail Splitter we go!

Bar Number 149: The Rail Splitter, Saturday, June 27, 2026

Here we are at The Rail Splitter in Mossville. It looks exactly the same as it did nine years ago when I was here and that’s a good thing.

Let’s go inside and see what’s happening in there.

There’s a nice wooden sign on the wall and a bar greets you as you walk in…but that’s not the official bar.

There’s a sign that points you to the actual bar in here and it’s over here, this-a-way…

There it is, the wooden bar at The Rail Splitter.

There’s plenty of seats, so let’s go snag one and get settled in for this Saturday evening in Mossville.

Sierra was the pretty bartender on duty and here she is serving me up a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon in honor of MBIP Commenter Chad Wallace who loves this drink so much he bathes in PBR from time to time. Cheers, Chad!

I love the wooden, A-framed back of this bar. It has a log cabin feel to it!

Alex was seated next to me at the bar and I haven’t seen him in quite a while and it was nice to catch up and chat with him!

There’s the quartet of beers on tap behind the bar and Sierra showed me a paper from when they had a Medium in here to take notes on ghosts in the building.

There’s a note about Abraham Lincoln entering here. He supposedly stopped in here back in the day, hence the name of the bar, The Rail Splitter.

Happy Hour happens ever Tuesday through Friday in here from 2pm to 5pm with $1.50 domestic bottles of beer. Such a deal!

There’s a gaming room up in the front of the bar if you’re in a gambling mood.

This room located directly behind the bar has a pool table and a couple of tables in it.

There’s yet another room behind that one that is a full-fledged dining room with tables, a communal table and giant-ass silverware on the wall.

Meanwhile, back at the bar…

Our Saturday night dinner has been served up. I got an appetizer order of the cheese and bacon covered French fries and they were amazingly good! And a huge-ass portion for an appetizer!

The French fries are sliced fresh in house and covered in a super rich, creamy cheese sauce and the bacon is crispy, smoky and savory.

This was a delicious dish and a wonderful Saturday night dinner!

After dinner, Alex pointed out that my business card that I put up here on my last visit, nine years ago was still on the bulletin board! So I added a new one and now there’s two!

Thanks to Alex and Sierra for a fun evening at The Rail Splitter on a wonderful, summer Saturday evening!
