I don’t go out a lot on Sunday nights, I usually stay home and work on the upcoming posts for the blog.
A friend of mine invited me to go to the Peoria Municipal Band Concert at Glen Oak Park last Sunday and I had never been to one of those concerts. I suggested we have dinner first, so I had a rare Sunday out on the town in Peoria, Illinois!
And, just like Jackie Gleason, away we go!

MD’s Sports Bar & Grill
Here we are at MD’s Sports Bar & Grill on University near Pioneer Park.
I love the neon in the window and if you look real closely you can see obligatory mirror shots of myself and tonight’s guest of honor!
Okay, let’s go inside and start this Sunday night out on the town!
There’s the large bar up in the front of the room and I spy tonight’s guest star over there in the corner…
It’s my friend Jan Kleppe!
Jan and I have been friends since way back in 1974 when we both worked at the Drug Store in Junction City! I was a sophomore in high school and Jan was the pharmacist and my boss!
Always great to see Jan and reminisce about the good old days!
We checked out the menu and our pretty and friendly server, Melissa brought me a beer and took our dinner orders.
I love it when this happens!
We started off with the monthly eggroll special and it’s a Bacon-Jalapeno, Mac & Cheese eggroll.
It was delicious and had a nice, zippy zing to it!
There’s the daily specials and there’s a row of gaming machines on the side wall for all of you gamblers out there!
In the side room opposite the bar there’s a pool table and dart machines.
The door leads you out to the beer garden where there’s an outdoor bar and a large dining and drinking area with tables and chairs.
On Sundays and Wednesdays they have chicken wing specials and Jan and I each got an order of chicken wings and they were very tasty and delicious.
I forgot to take photos of them, but here’s two graphics from their facecrack page. You should really stop out and try them and take advantage of all the other specials and activities happening here at MD’s Sports Bar!

It’s showtime!
This fellow made the introductory announcements and brought out the emcee for the evening, my friend and the Executive Director at ArtsPartners of Central Illinois, Dr. Mae Gilliand Wright.
Mae explained the theme of the show and introduced the solo vocalist for the evening, Mara McClintock.
The band and Mara sounded exquisite!
After a few wonderful tunes, Mae came back and spoke about the upcoming Ignite Peoria event that’s happening this Saturday.

The Daily Scoop was there at the band concert with their food truck!
I went over and said hi to the owner, Matt and got some peanut butter and chocolate ice cream which was a sweet treat!
