Sunday Links: Born On The Fourth of July - The Book And The Movie - Plus: The MBIP Coming Attractions!

by MBIP

Since this coming Friday is the Fourth of July, I thought I’d put up some links to online articles about Ron Kovic’s book, Born on the Fourth of July.

The book is a riveting memoir of Kovic’s memories of fighting the war in Vietnam as a Marine and ending up in a wheelchair after being shot in the spine during his tour of duty. He ended up being a prominent anti-war activist and the book tells his tale. And yeah, he was actually born on the Fourth of July!

Below are five links to online articles about the book and three about the movie that was adapted from the book in 1989 starring Tom Cruise and directed by Oliver Stone. Kovic co-wrote the screenplay with Oliver Stone.

Then below that are the MBIP Coming Attractions as to what’s happening on the blog next week!

MBIP COMING ATTRACTIONS

Monday: Last night I went out to dinner at The Silver Bullet in East Peoria with my friends Amber and Joe and we had a fun night at the place that was the second stop on their first date eleven years ago!

Tuesday: We’ll be continuing our Dog Days of Summer 2025 hot dog eating tour on Tuesday, but I have to figure out where to go this week and I only have two days to resolve this. Yikes!

Wednesday: I went to the latest show in Sarah Marie Dillard’s Director’s Cut series and this one featured singer/songwriter, Kathy Folkulele. It was a great show and you can read about it and see photos from this show on Wednesday!

Thursday: We’ll be looking backwards at a blog post from the past in another edition of Throwback Thursday.

Friday: Another snack item will be featured this week on the 4th of July and I think I’m going to be sampling different flavors of Pringles potato chips this week.

Saturday: We’ll be looking back in Peoria’s past at another Meanwhile, Back in Peoria’s Past post, so tune in for that!
