Three Days Off + Three Paragraphs From My Forthcoming Book: “Confessions Of A Spiteful Writer” - Chapter Ten

by MBIP

It’s time of the week for the weekly update on how I’m doing with the writing of my forthcoming book, “Confessions Of A Spiteful Writer.”

The good news is that I just finished up Chapter Ten! The bad news is that we’re up to Chapter Ten on our weekly “Three Paragraphs” teaser section below, so I have to finish Chapter Eleven by next week or that section will be blank next week. I guess that’s a good thing because it forces me to work quicker. Of course it will be a bad thing if I don’t finish it, because then that section will be blank! Tune in next week to see what happens!

I also updated my YouTube Channel with a new video. In the video series, which I call, Spiteful Stories, which is a series about my writing career which somewhat mirrors the book, I’m discussing the ending of the seven year run of my magazine, fishwrap. Click right here to check out that video or on the picture below.

Tomorrow and Saturday, I’ll be posting a “Best of MBIP” link on Twitter and facecrack, so check those out if you follow me on either one or both of those social media platforms.

Below are three teaser paragraphs from Chapter Ten of, “Confessions Of A Spiteful Writer.”

Chapter Ten: 1993-1994: Freelance Writing and the Start of Fishwrap

In addition to NY Weekly, I started writing for another weekly paper, The Manhattan Spirit. Faye Penn was the editor-in-chief and she contacted me and asked me to send a pitch list of possible story ideas, which I promptly did and I started to work with Chris Erikson who was the managing editor.

I also wrote a few feature articles for another weekly paper called, Our Town, which mainly covered events and places on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. This led me to compiling my clippings from the weekly papers and submitting them to the three daily newspapers I thought I had a shot at maybe getting some work from and possibly a staff writing job. These papers were: The NY Daily News, The NY Post and NY Newsday.

I got a call a day after I dropped my portfolio off at the Manhattan offices of NY Newsday. Their main headquarters was located on Long Island, but they had a Manhattan office and I had dropped my portfolio off their and marked it to the attention of Stan Mieses, who was an editor that I was directed to leave it for when I called to inquire about writing for the daily paper.
