A Baker’s Dozen - 13 Cookies In 13 Months - April, 2024 - Cookie Number Twelve @: Panaderia Ortiz Bakery

by MBIP

We’re up to week number twelve in our monthly cookie tour and this is our last stop. I know, you’re thinking, “But a Baker’s Dozen is thirteen” and yes, there will be a thirteenth cookie, but it’s going to be from a place we’ve already been to!

Next month we’re going to do a wrap-up of the dozen cookies we’ve sampled and I’m going to choose my personal favorite cookie and we’re going to go there and present them with some sort of prize or proclamation or whatever I can think of. It’s next month, so I’ve got time to figure this out!

Our final cookie destination is one of my favorite places to get sweet bakery treats and they also have wonderful Mexican inspired food and that can only be Panaderia Ortiz Bakery. Let’s go make our final sweet stop in downtown Peoria!

Whenever I come to Panaderia Ortiz Bakery, I take photos of the glorious mural on the side of the building! I love this art in downtown Peoria!

And here we are in front of this spectacular bakery on Monroe Street.

Okay, let’s go in and see what’s going on inside on this lovely afternoon!

I see a familiar face behind the counter and it’s Bernardo, Jr! Last time I saw him he was just a kid and now he’s 19-years-old and all grown up!

Time is flying by and it’s great to see this young man again!

While this place is billed as a bakery, they also have a full menu and they are open everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food here is homemade and delicious!

Bernardo showed me this wall of foreign money on the wall opposite the menu. All the currency has been donated by customers! Very cool!

I love the bright and festive atmosphere in here!

They have tables and comfortable booths line the walls for your dining pleasure in here.

Okay, time to browse the bakery bins for this month’s cookie selection! Everything in here looks so fresh and delicious it’s hard to make a decision!

Okay, here’s the April cookie of the month and it will be revealed soon!

But first, a photo of Bernardo with his pretty mom, Marie.

Bernardo, Sr. was out running errands, so I told them to tell him hello and I was off to the MBIP World Headquarters to sample this month’s sweet treat!

I chose one of Panaderia Ortiz’ specialty cookies, an Elephant Ear.

This is a large, round cookie, but as you can see, it’s also very thin. Let’s take a bite and see how it tastes, it looks scrumptious!

Wow, this is one sweet and tasty cookie!

It’s deep-fried dough topped with sugar and cinnamon and it’s large but very light. You can eat this entire cookie and you’ll end up wishing you got a whole box of them!

It’s a sweet and delicious treat and you should definitely stop by Panaderia Ortiz Bakery and try this and all of their fresh-baked treats!
