Sunday Links: National Lampoon’s Vacation - Plus: The MBIP Coming Attractions!

by MBIP

Summer officially started last Tuesday and this week we’ll be celebrating the 4th of July!

Looks like it’s vacation season and so I thought this week we’d feature links to online articles about the classic movie, National Lampoon’s Vacation. It was originally released on July 29, 1983 which means that in a couple weeks it’s going to be 36 years since it first hit the theaters!

Below are a half a dozen links to the original film plus a video of a reunion with the original cast and then there’s the weekly MBIP Coming Attractions!

Read John Hughes’ Original National Lampoon Vacation Story That Started the Movie Franchise - Before it was a movie and before John Hughes became a teen movie tycoon, he was a writer for the National Lampoon magazine and Vacation was an article titled, “Vacation ’58.” It was a little darker in tone than the movie for which he wrote the script. Here’s the lead line to the original article: “If Dad hadn’t shot Walt Disney in the leg, it would have been our best vacation ever!”

‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ - The original NY Times 1983 review by Janet Maslin.

14 Road-Worthy Facts About National Lampoon’s Vacation - Number 13 is interesting and something I had never seen, warning: It’s not very good.

20 things you probably didn’t know about ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ - Number 11: I never realized that was Jane Krakowski till I read this!

30 Things We Learned From the ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ Commentary - Notes from the DVD commentary.

‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ Stars: Where Are They Now? - A gallery of then and now photos and information of what the cast has been up to since 1983. *Spoiler Alert: Imogene Coca and John Candy are still dead.*

MBIP Coming Attractions!

Monday: I went to Peoria Pizza Works with my friends Amber and Joe last night and we had a delicious Saturday night dinner there. Photos of this pizza feast will be up tomorrow!

Tuesday: MBIP Pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley drove us to Springfield, Illinois for a special road trip edition of The Dog Days Of Summer and we went to a legendary spot on Route 66! We also met special guest stars, Chad Wallace and Ilene Casebeer. I hadn’t seen Ilene since 1976 when we both worked at the Drug Store in Junction City and it was a fun reunion!

Wednesday: There’s a memorial bench in honor of Shane Stokowski on Grandview Drive that I visited this week and I’ll share photos and memories of Shane this week.

Thursday: I’m not sure what I’m doing this Thursday, I need to get my shit together and figure something out!

Friday: I think I’ll stop in to Pottstown Meats to find something to grill up this week for our Please Grill Me Episode.

Saturday: We’ll be taking a trip back in time for another, Meanwhile Back in Peoria’s Past episode, so stay tuned for that!
