July 24: National Lit. On Fire Books Day!

by MBIP

Last week I was trying to think of somewhere to go to do a blog on and I thought of one of my favorite Peoria book shops, Lit. on Fire Books.

I haven’t stopped by for a while and I thought it would be fun to stop in, take some photos and catch up with my friend, Jessica, who owns the store. Then I started thinking about the first post I ever did from the first chapter of Lit. on Fire’s history when she was in a one room store in the back of the Sunbeam Building.

I went to my archives to see when that was and it shocked me that it was ten years ago on July 7, 2015! That’s a whole decade ago!

So I did what one must do when you realize you have a 10th anniversary with a book shop…you go to Trefzger’s Bakery, of course!

Here we are at our first sweet stop of the day, Trefzger’s Bakery.

Let’s go in and grab some goodies!

As soon as I walked in, I ran into Martha, who owns Trefzger’s along with her husband Jeff. Always great to see her smiling face and it was nice to catch up with her.

I chose ten cupcakes to take to Jessica, one cupcake for every year since the very first MBIP post and when she opened up her fabulous book shop in July of 2015!

There’s the storefront for today’s blog destination.

Let’s go inside and start our celebration of this new national holiday!

I walked in and the shop looks fantastic and filled to the brim with books!

There’s the owner, Jessica over at the front desk looking fabulous as always! Time to present her with our sweet Trefzger’s treats and declare today’s newest national holiday!

There’s Jessica opening up the cupcakes and now to declare this official holiday!

I, Marty Wombacher, not being of a totally sound mind or body, do hearby officially declare July 24 to be National Lit. On Fire Books Day!

Hooray for this new national holiday! Let’s take a tour and continue this celebration of this wonderul, locally-owned book shop!

There is such a large selection of books in here, it is truly a book lover’s paradise!

And there’s more in here than books too, Jessica has a wonderful selection of cards, games and fun gift items as well!

Jessica stocks titles and has books that you can’t find on Amazon or online, which makes the store an offline destination for all of you book lovers out there!

And there’s even more books in this large room in the back including, “Punks in Peoria,” co-written by my friend, Jonathan Wright.

Jonathan is working on a new book right now, and you can read about the details of it by clicking right here!

I guarantee when it comes out there will be a book release party right here at Lit. on Fire Books, so stay tuned for that!

I told Jessica that I really liked that bookcase in the front room and she told me she bought it and this display table from I Know You Like A Book, another great book shop that sadly closed when the owner, Mary Beth Nebel died a couple years ago.

Nice to see that Jessica has kept a portion of that shop alive by having a part of it on display in Lit. on Fire Books!

In addition to July marking the tenth anniversary of my first post on Lit. on Fire Books and the grand opening back on July 3rd, owner Jessica also celebrated her birthday this week, so happy birthday and happy tenth anniversary, Jessica!

And Happy National Lit. on Fire Books Day to everyone!

Stop in the shop and buy a book to celebrate this brand new shiny national holiday in celebration of this fabulous locally-owned Peoria book shop!
