Little Golden Lunch - Goldbelly Box Number One: Taste Of New York - Week #3: A Ham & Cheese Toasted Ess-a-Bagel

by MBIP

We’re up to week number three eating things from my Goldbelly Taste of New York box and this week we’re going to be making a bagel sandwich.

Part of the goodies in the Taste of New York box are a dozen bagels from Ess-a-Bagel which has been making bagels in New York City since 1976.

Here’s the store, which is located on 3rd Avenue, between 50th and 51st Street. I’ve been in there several times. It wasn’t a regular stop for me because I’m not a big fan of that section of the city.

But I have had their bagels and they’re extremely tasty! It’s nice to be able to enjoy them right here in Peoria, Illinois.

One of my favorite bagel sandwiches is a ham and cheese bagel. I want to get some deli meat and cheese for this sandwich, we can’t just put store-bought cold-cuts on a Ess-a-Bagel, so let’s head over to…

Alwan & Sons Meat Company!

Let’s go in and get the ingredients that will be housed in our New York City bagel!

I got a package of their homemade cheese spread along with a quarter pound of Hormel Spiced Ham and Buffalo Wing Cheddar Cheese which is made in New York City! Perfect!

Here’s all the ingredients for today’s Little Golden Lunch.

Check out the bottom of the bagel, it’s loaded with sesame seeds!

Okay, I sliced the bagel in half and toasted it under the broiler on both sides.

Then I coated it with the Alwan & Sons Cheddar Cheese spread and put it back under the broiler.

Here’s the bagel after being cooked up with the cheddar cheese spread. I added a decent amount of spicy mustard to them and now it’s time to build this bagel up!

I added slices of the spiced ham and buffalo wing cheese along with a little more mustard for the hell of it.

Here’s today’s Little Golden New York City lunch in all of its glory!

The bagel was so tasty and full of flavor!

The ham and cheese were spicy and the mustard added a nice bold level of flavor and the bagel was unbelievable in flavor and was so delicious! A real New York City treat!

And I couldn’t believe Alwan & Sons had black and white cookies! Another New York City treat right here in Peoria, Illinois!
