Sunday Links: Mike Nesmith - Plus: The MBIP Coming Attractions!

by MBIP

I’ve been a Monkees fan since they first burst onto the scene back in 1966 with their hit single, “Last Train To Clarksville” and their hilarious TV show that aired shortly after that single’s release.

The Monkees were a four piece group put together for a fictional TV show of the same name. Two of them, Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones were actors with a bit of a musical background and the other two, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith were musicians that had never acted before.

The Monkees started out as a somewhat manufactured fake band, but as the months rolled by, they became an actual band and the driving force behind this was Mike Nesmith. He had the foresight to ask for his original songs to be recorded by the band and he eventually got the band to record an album all by themselves, which was their Headquarters LP.

Sadly, Mike Nesmith died last Friday, so here’s some links to the memory of whom many consider the most talented Monkee of the four of them. Hey, hey, he was the Monkees.
