The other day while looking around on Amazon I happened to see that The Rolling Stones put out a box set version of their 1967 album, Their Satanic Majesties Request last year because it was the 50th anniversary of that album. I’ve always thought that Their Satanic Majesties Request was such a horrible album and an obvious rip-off of The Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I was kind of amazed that they’d re-release it because even they admit it was kind of an embarrassing moment in their career. So in honor of this discovery, I have six links to online articles about what I think is one of The Rolling Stones most horrible albums! And of course then there’s the MBIP Coming Attractions!
The Rolling Stones: Their Satanic Majesties Request - 1967 Rolling Stone Review - This is the original Rolling Stone review from December 8, 1967. It’s written by Jon Landau who would later go on to be Bruce Springsteen’s manager and co-producer. It’s a pretty bad review and it even goes so far as to say that the album puts The Rolling Stones career in jeopardy.
The Story Behind the Cover of the Rolling Stones’ Their Satanic Majesties Request - The Stones used Michael Cooper, the same photographer who did the Sgt. Pepper cover for The Beatles. This is Cooper’s son explaining how it happened and there’s also some great photos from that era in this article.
How The Rolling Stones Found Themselves on 'Satanic Majesties Request' by Getting Lost - Within this article, Keith Richards sums up the album in seven words: “The album was a load of crap."
The Rolling Stones: Just How Bad Is “Their Satanic Majesties Request”? - The album gets rated here as a 40% stinker.
Their Satanic Majesties Request - Notes and Quotes from the Stones - Lots of recording dates and notes here with a ton of quotes from the band. As usual Keef sums it up best with this one: “Half of it was, 'Let's give people what we think they want.' The other half was, 'Let's get out of here as quickly as possible.”'
Ranked: Rolling Stones Albums From Best to Worst - According to this list, Satanic Majesties falls in the middle. Click on the link to see the worst all the way to the best Rolling Stones album in their opinion.
Last night I had dinner with my friend Michelle, we last met up for dinner in October of 2016, so we were a bit overdue to say the least! We went to the newest restaurant in the Heights, Joe's Original Italian & Martini Bar and had a great dinner and a fun evening, that’ll be up tomorrow. Tuesday is the twelfth week in our seven month steak tour and the road trip we were going to take just got cancelled due to the motherfucking ice coming out of the sky! I fucking hate winter! Now I have to improvise and think of something, so tune in and find out what happens with this week of steak! I'm kind of curious about that myself right now! Wednesday I’m going to do the first, “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?” segment of the year. The last four times I’ve attempted to do this, I’ve gotten turned down at the original destination I had planned. Will I finally break the streak? Well, we’ll find out on Wednesday! Thursday we’ll feature another random Peorian for the People of Peoria series and Friday will be a trip to Burger King for Fast Food Friday. And then Saturday we’ll have another tasteless and somewhat crude MBIP Saturday cartoon. Okay, time to start drinking...I mean time to start working on all of this stuff! We'll see you all tomorrow!
