The other week after taking photos of Peoria’s award-winning City Hall, I ran into Tammy over at Kickback At Fulton while waiting for a ride. Tammy’s been on the blog (scroll down on this link to see her photo) and we have a mutual friend in Lisa who owns Menzoil Grooming Station. Anyway, we got to talking about bars and she told me that a friend of hers who is also named, Lisa, is bartending at The Getaway on Western Avenue in West Peoria. I haven’t been to that bar since I went there seven years ago when I was doing my 365 Bars blog. Here’s the link to that visit. Well, Tammy invited me to the Happy Hour at The Getaway and who am I to turn down an invitation like that? So here I go back to The Getaway after a seven year absence! But first...
I thought since it was a Happy Hour, I’d do my share and make some snack mix to share a little happiness around the bar.
As I’ve noted several times in the past, I’m a bored...I mean Board Certified Snackologist, so you shouldn’t try and attempt this at your own home. Here’s tonight’s mix I’ve carefully sculpted from the bags of snacks pictured above. Tonight’s theme is a popcorn and pretzel mix with an emphasis on sweet and salty. Yes, I really do put some time and thought into this!
And here’s the bowls of snacks ready to take over to...
The Getaway! Wow, the place hasn’t changed at all in seven years! And I know enough to go around to...
The back entrance! There is a door at the front, but those in the know enter here. So let’s go on in and let the evening begin!
As I entered the hallway to walk down to the bar, I saw a familiar sight, I think those are the same roasting pans that were here seven years ago! Looks like nothing has changed in here and that’s a good thing!
I made my way down into the bar and there’s Tammy and that’s Kat and Tammy’s friend Lisa behind the bar! A trio of pretty ladies, the night is off to a great start already!
Just like the upstairs hallway, the bar is pretty much the same in here as my last visit. It’s a nice cozy neighborhood atmosphere in here and everyone’s in a friendly mood!
Here’s the snacks on the bar! I’m happy to report that everyone enjoyed them!
Nikki was seated at the end of the bar and at first I thought she was buying drinks with Monopoly money and that intrigued me! I found out that they’re Getaway bucks. You get these instead of drink chips here and Nikki has a fistful of them! No wonder she’s smiling!
Here’s another throwback to my 365 bar crawl blog, it’s Dan! I met him at Mike’s seven years ago when I came back to Peoria for a visit and went there for my daily bar crawl. Check out the link here and scroll down to see Dan! Great to see him again!
Here’s a shot from the far corner of the bar and there’s some of the gaming machines in here. They weren’t here last time, so something has changed in here!
Meanwhile, back over at this side of the bar, I asked Lisa if I could go behind the bar and take some photos back there and she said I could. Which means only one thing...
MBIP Bartender Cam Photos!
Here’s everyone around the bar as I spun around taking shots instead of drinking them!
Uh, oh, looks like it’s time to put the MBIP Camera down! Thanks to Tammy for inviting me for the Happy Hour tonight and to Lisa for the hospitality and to everyone at The Getaway! Stop in and see Lisa bartending here and Tammy is bartending at the aforementioned Kickback At Fulton Monday and Wednesday’s from 3PM to closing, so stop in and say hi to her as well! It was a fun night at The Getaway and I’ll be back sooner than seven years this time! You’ve been warned! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
