About a month ago we had another MBIP facecrack contest and in a true Steve Harvey moment (hat tip to Jon Walker for reminding me of that!) I chose the wrong winner! When I realized I had screwed up I decided to take the real winner of the contest along with the first one I had named, she actually came in second place anyway! And so, let’s go meet the two winners and have our celebratory MBIP Contest Winners Lunch!
We decided to have lunch here at One World Cafe on the corner of University and Main Street. I’ve had dinner here many times, but I’ve never had lunch here, so this is a first for MBIP!
Okay, we’re inside, now we need to find the contest winners...
Here’s one over right over here! This is Carrie, who I originally picked as the winner of the check cashing contest, but then I found out that...
Charlotte actually guessed closer and here’s Charlotte up front on the couch! Alright everyone’s here, so time to let this celebratory luncheon begin!
The hostess will seat us...but where’s the hostess?
Here she is, the hostess of the day, Cassy along with Chelsea who’s a server in here.
Cassy flies into her hostess duty and leads us to our table.
Wow, they sure pack them in here for lunch!
Here we are all seated at our table! All we need is some drinks and the lunch can start happening!
Ask and ye shall receive! This is Kelly our friendly waitress delivering our drinks and the MBIP Contest Winner’s Lunch is officially underway! After some introductory small talk, I had to go and take my MBIP photos of One World before our lunch order arrived. Hey, it’s what I do!
Booths line the walls in the main dining room.
Behind our table is a photo display that reminded me of MBIP pal and Contributing Photographer, “Boris” Boden’s photography.
The bar is up front here and this is where I sit when I come here by myself.
Here’s the specials of the day written on this wintry themed board.
The front bakery case houses all kinds of delicious homemade pastries, cookies and pies.
According to these clocks, it’s just about time for...
Carrie got the Cuban Pork Sandwich, which is slow simmered pork, topped with caramelized onions, melted Swiss cheese, and chipotle barbecue mayo on a toasted ciabatta roll. She also got a side of mashed potatoes.
Charlotte got the Bistro Salad. The salad is made up of mixed field greens with walnuts, sun-dried cranberries, Gorgonzola cheese, grilled chicken and Granny Smith apples.
For my luncheon entree I ordered the Cubano Pizza. This is really a unique pizza, the sauce is One World’s chipotle BBQ mayo and it’s topped with shredded pork, diced ham, and shredded cheese. Kelly told me the proper way to eat it is to dip the slice into mustard. Well, I’m all about the mustard, so I’m on board for this, let’s give it a try.
Wow, this is a really delicious pizza! It’s probably the most unique tasting pizza I’ve ever had. The BBQ mayo is a spicy sauce and it mingles well with the shredded pork and diced ham. I wasn’t sure about the pickle, but it added a nice flavor to the mix and gave the slice a little bit of crunch. And Kelly was right about the mustard, it really added a nice flavor to the slice. You should definitely give this pizza a try, it’s tasty and really different!
After lunch I presented Charlotte and Carrie with their fifty dollar gift certificates to Urban Artifacts. We really had a fun lunch and while talking it turned out that we all have friends in common. Charlotte is friends with Amber, from Amber and Marty’s Fillin’ Station and Carrie is friends with Kevin and Star who are friends of mine and semi regular guest stars here on the blog. And of course now we have to cue this up!
Kelly took a shot of us at the table after we had finished lunch. Thanks to everyone at One World for great hospitality and a wonderful lunch. And thanks to Charlotte and Carrie for playing and winning the contest and joining me for lunch, it was a ton of fun and I hope to see both of you again! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Bonus Michelle Update!
Some of you may have seen on facecrack where I wished my friend, Michelle good luck as she had surgery last Monday. Well I’m happy to report that the surgery went well and she’s already out of the hospital! I went and visited Michelle last night and she’s doing as well as one can be doing after having brain surgery done just five days ago. She’s going to have a healing period, but she’s home and was in good spirits. She drifted off to sleep and I didn’t want to bug her by taking a photo, but here’s one that her daughter, Amanda took on Wednesday. I like the shaved head look, Michelle looks pretty badass! Hang in there and feel better, Michelle! I’ll be stopping by soon to visit again! Maybe next time you’ll share your pain medicine with me!
