Last Sunday after our wings and rings feast at The Turley’s, MBIP pal, Contributing Writer and Wheelman, Scott Turley drove me home and we made a pit stop at Scott’s favorite bar in Morton, The Office On Main. I really liked the bar and told them I’d return this week for our weekly beers at a bar post. And so, it’s off we go with a twinkle in our eyes and a powerful thirst in our throats to the Office On Main!
I was going to hitch a ride with Scott over to The Office On Main, but he got sick, so I ended up over at Acme Comics where owner Bob Gordon forced Luke to drive me over there. I love it when that happens...to the Luke Mobile!
And we’re off! Luke and I had a nice chat on the way to The Office with topics including, Kate Bush, girls who jerk off in the back seat of your car, tornadoes, fanzines, Sassy magazine, pumpkins and abortions. A lively conversation for sure!
Before you know it, here we are on Main Street in Morton, Illinois. The Office is just down the street...
See, I told you so! There’s the Office On Main and according to that sign in addition to lunch, they’re serving dinner three nights a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Tonight’s special is fried chicken. I haven’t had fried chicken in a long time and I think that’s going to be tonight’s dinner. Along with a few beers of course!
Let’s go in and punch the clock at The Office.
I grabbed a seat at the end of the bar and marked my territory with a can of Budweiser.
This is Trisha, the pretty co-owner of The Office, showing me a photo of the place back in 1969. It was called The Office back then and the outside of the building hasn’t changed much at all. Nice to see some things remaining the same after all those years have flown by.
Here’s the view from where I’m perched at the bar.
This is the middle of the bar and as you can see from the lit up bottles, they are well stocked!
They have seven beers on tap if you prefer draft beer.
Here’s the nightly drink specials. There’s two dollar Budweiser Tallboys tonight and I’m taking advantage of that beer bargain!
Check out the other pretty bartender on duty tonight, Gina. They keep it all in the family in here, Gina is Trisha’s sister!
And here’s a shot of the entire Office On Main crew on duty tonight, from left: Bartender Gina, Co-Owner Darren, Leroy who’s the chef tonight and will be cooking up our dinner and Trisha the other Co-Owner that we just met.
Last week we met Lisa who was bartending and it turned out that she had been at a party at my apartment over twenty years ago with Bloody Mess and we had a nice reunion. She came back tonight to have some fun on the other side of the bar and hang out. Great to see her again, she’s looking really pretty and I’m happy she showed up!
There’s a pool table directly behind the bar for your billiard playing pleasure.
Tables line the wall opposite the bar and Lisa and I moved to one to eat our dinner at. And here’s Leroy with our dinners. Talk about great service!
I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. It looks and smells so good!
Lisa got the Irish Nachos and they look spectacular as well. And that’s a half order! I think they must serve the full order on two plates. Okay, time to dig in.
The fried chicken is out of this world good! The outside breading is crispy, crunchy and delightfully seasoned. Inside the chicken is juicy, succulent and tasty. If you’re a friend chicken fan, you need to stop by here on Thursday nights and try it out. The mashed potatoes and macaroni salad were tasty as well.
Lisa said the Irish Nachos were really a treat and I had a bite from her plate and I can confirm that. This was a really good meal.
The Office is a friendly place where the regulars stop by and say hi and make you feel like you’ve been coming there for years. This is Brian who stopped by to say hi with his dad, Ron. Ron’s visiting from Texas and it was great to meet both of them.
There’s a nice beer garden in the back of the bar.
Thankfully the sun has set and here’s a shot of the bar as darkness fills the night. I love this time of the evening!
You know the food’s good in a place when you see one of the owners eating in there! Here’s Darren enjoying some of tonight’s fried chicken.
Here’s a shot from the back of the bar.
Neither Lisa or I could finish our massive dinners, so we got some to go boxes as we got ready to call it a night.
Goodnight and we’ll see you all tomorrow. Thanks to everyone at The Office On Main for a great meal and evening and thanks to Lisa for hanging out with me! And hey...let’s be careful out there!
