Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, The Fish House, with special guest stars, Amber, Joe, Paul and Sam and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host, The Fish House!
Here we are at one of my favorite Peoria restaurants, The Fish House! I’ve been eating here since it opened when I was a senior in high school back in 1976!
Let’s go inside and start this week’s Saturday evening!
The dining room is certainly looking festive with that bright Christmas tree beaming over there on the far side of the room.
Here’s a fuzzy-wuzzy shot of the tables back in the bar area, the goddamn MBIP camera is acting up on me again. Hate the MBIP camera! HATE HATE HATE it!
This is my favorite corner table in the Fish House.
And there’s tonight’s destination...the bar! The Fish House has one of the darkest bars in town and I love it! I think I see two familiar faces over there at the end of the bar...
It’s my friends Amber and Joe! Always happy to see them and now I think it’s time for a beer...
Ask and ye shall receive! There’s The Fish House bartenders Paul and Sam serving up the first beer of the evening! This is just a warm-up drill though. Last year we started a new tradition here at the Fish House and I think it’s just about time to begin...
THE SECOND ANNUAL FISH HOUSE HOLIDAY DRINK SHOWDOWN! And you know this is really something special because I rarely use all capital letters! And I think I’ll even throw in some multiple exclamation points just to show how special this really is!!! Okay, I think the point has been made and now it’s time to start mixing some holiday drinks here!
Paul is going to start off the competition. He’s decided to make a holiday version of a Grasshopper, a classic ice cream drink.
It certainly is festive looking and it was delicious! Very minty and it had a nice holiday flavor to it! Great work, Paul!
And now it’s Sam’s turn to start mixing it up behind the bar! She already gets points for that beautiful smile she’s flashing!
Sam decided to make a holiday hot chocolate drink for this heated competition. There’s several different shots of booze thrown in to the chocolatey mixture and I’m happy to see that! She topped it off with whipped cream and a cinnamon stick.
Amber and Joe were sampling the drinks too and all three of us agreed that...
The winner is...
Sam! Paul’s festive Grasshopper drink was very tasty, but Sam’s Christmas Hot Chocolate Toddy was really delicious and a perfect holiday drink! The drink isn’t offered on the menu, but if you mention that you saw this on MBIP, Sam will mix you one up when she’s on duty! Her prize winnings included a rare, government issued George Washington silver medallion and a Visa Gift Card with a 47,719 cash value attached to it. Hey, it’s the holidays and we don’t fuck around here at MBIP! Sam’s heading off to Florida for a vacation soon, so please buy your cousin Jack a drink with the card on behalf of MBIP please!
Here’s Sam celebrating her victory on the other side of the bar!
And her Christmas Hot Chocolate Toddy is already becoming popular here in the bar, that’s Jeanne in the center enjoying the drink and to her right is Anne, who told me she’s a regular MBIP reader! Really nice to meet both of them!
And as the evening at The Fish House winds down, Justin, the owner of the place has come out of the kitchen for a drink with Fish House regular, Tim! Happy holidays, guys!
Congratulations to Sam for her winning drink, and don’t be so ashamed, Paul! Your drink was very tasty too! Thanks to Sam and Paul for being great sports and making two tasty original drinks and to Amber and Joe for helping out with the judging and hanging out with me at the bar! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Christmas Sunglasses From Ragin’ RR!
Last week a mysterious package arrived here at MBIP World Headquarters! It turns out it's from MBIP pal and commenter, Ragin' RR! I’m amazed that it found it’s way here only labeled, “MBIP World Headquarters!” I guess the people at the post office read this blog!
There’s some padding at the top of the box...
Wow, check it out, two pairs of sunglasses to help out on the drives when that rotten sunshine won’t stop being so...bright!
And these ones wrap around eyeglasses! Stay tuned as I’ll road test these soon in a future post! Thanks so much to Ragin’ RR for this generous and cool gift! Happy holidays, RR, and thanks for the fun comments and quotes you leave here!
