When Posts Collide! Coffee Talk/Eating Peoria One Street At A Time: Main Street @ Broken Tree Coffee

by MBIP

Well now, this is a pretty exciting post for me, it’s only the second time here on MBIP that posts have collided! This happened once before in this “Eating Main Street” series when I went to Table 19 at The Pere Marquette on a Saturday night and now it’s going to happen again today. The next stop on the “Eating Main Street” series is at the Broken Tree coffee shop on the corner of Main Street and Sheridan. I thought I’d get something to eat and see what kind of coffee they’ll serve up to a non-coffee drinker like myself. So, put on a crash helmet as posts collide here on MBIP!

Alright, here we go up the Main Street hill to our next stop on this tour. I love the view of cruising up Main Street!

Sadly Mr. G’s closed, but it’s reopening, so we may have to double back here when it re-opens. You can read about that new business that’s coming here by clicking on this link.

Drive-by shot of today’s destination, Broken Tree coffee shop!

Alright, we’ve parked the MBIP Mobile and here we are, let’s go in and let this collision of posts begin!

Plenty of seats at the bar and that’s the back of Jeremiah, who owns Broken Tree along with his wife.

And here’s the two menus that we’re going to choose from today. They have homemade pizza and a lot of specialty coffees here.

Well, it turns out that we’re a little early for the food portion of this post, Jeremiah hadn’t turned the pizza oven on yet and he said it would be about an hour before he was ready to start making fresh pies, so here’s a picture of a slice of Broken Tree’s pizza that we had on our pizza tour a while back. The pizza here is great and you should check it out.

Okay, onto the Coffee Talk portion of the post!

Jeremiah suggested I try an Espresso Soda, which is one of his original coffee recipes he brews up in here. So I told him to go for it and here he goes!

Jon Walker from Urban Artifacts stopped in to watch the coffee action!

And here’s Jeremiah serving up the Espresso Soda! It looks great!

And it tastes even better! It’s got a sharp somewhat sweet taste with just a hint of the coffee flavor coming through. And I love the straw!

Okay, now that we’re all jacked up on the caffeine, let’s take a look around in here!

The decorative burlap coffee sacks that line the bottom of the bar are very cool!

There’s black leather booths opposite the bar lined up along the brick wall.

More booths are positioned in the front window and have a great view of the traffic and people walking along Main Street.

Here’s two Preston Jackson pieces of art for sale on the wall.

Love the little espresso coffee cups!

Jeremiah created this Big Lebowski piece of art on the back wall, very impressive!

Cindy came in to get some coffee to go and posed for the MBIP camera. She’s looking very pretty while doing so and it was nice to meet her and chat with her!

I love the paperback book rack in here, it reminds me of drug store days from long ago!

I got this paperback book titled, “The Body Missed The Boat.” It made me think of Natalie Wood! The only Wood that doesn’t...well, you know!

Okay, whenever I’m on this block I have to stop in to The Costume Trunk and see MBIP pal, Steve Spain and get a plastic chicken for my ever-growing plastic chicken collection!

And there’s Steve, always great to see him...

But sadly, the plastic chicken corner is void of all plastic chickens. Sob!

So I did what I had to do, I got a plastic monocle instead. Mr. Peanut would’ve been proud of me! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Coffee Talk Rating:

Four Linda Richmans—I really liked their coffee and the pizza here is fabulous...I’d say more but I’m getting a little verklempt over here...talk amongst yourselves.
