Okay, time for another awkward edition of “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here.” If you haven’t seen one of these posts, it’s pretty basic, I pick up lunch from a local restaurant and then go somewhere and ask if I can eat it in their lunch room. Nobody ever really knows why I want to eat in their lunchroom and it always makes for an awkward moment. And I’m proud to say that I’m two for two, I’ve successfully pulled this off twice. So I thought I’d up the ante and try something really challenging, the faculty lounge at Notre Dame High School. I went there back when it was Bergan High School and while I spent four years there, I’ve never been in the faculty lounge. Today, we’ll see if I can eat lunch in there!
I’ve heard really good things about Cyd’s in Junction City, so I thought we’d get our lunch to go from here.
Let’s go in and see what’s shaking during the lunchtime hour at Cyd’s.
I think you order over there at the front counter.
Yep, this is the place and there’s Taylor looking very pretty behind the counter. She said she’d get me a menu...
And baboom! There it is!
Caleigh stepped up to the plate to take the order, there's lots of pretty women here behind the counter!
There’s a big dining room in here and as you can see, this is a popular place for lunch!
In addition to food, they sell wine in here...
And they have beer too! Sadly, I have to work in a couple of hours, so I’ll probably get a green tea. That’s what I drink in the daytime. I get all zoomed up on the caffeine.
All the food in here looks great...
And the bakery goods look really tasty too. I’m going to have to come back here more often.
There’s more baked items over here. Very fitting I’m looking at baked items before heading over to my old high school where I was baked every day!
Free sample alert!
There's my lunch in the MBIP Mobile, I got a can of green tea and you'll have to wait to see what's in the container.
There it is, the high school formerly known as Bergan, let's go park...
And travel this familiar path to...
The front doors of the school.
The doors are locked, so I'm ringing this buzzer...
Let's go over to the front office and see if we can eat our lunch in here. This is where things get awkward and I always feel about half sick when this time comes around. But it's also what makes this so fun to do.
Okay, I talked with a woman in the office and she took me to the principal of Notre Dame High School, who understandably was a little confused about what I wanted to do. After some conversation he said he'd ask the teachers if they were okay with me eating lunch and taking some pictures of the faculty lounge. He's in there now. Will we get three of three or will I get thrown out of here? We'll find out soon! And caution: A microwave is in use!
Yes! The door has opened and we've gotten the green light to have lunch in the one spot I never got to be in during my somewhat spotty four year run here.
This is Randy Simmons, the principal of Notre Dame in the lounge. Thanks to him and the other teachers for letting me come into their inner sanctum in here and have lunch and take some photos.
There's a familiar face and a long tie veteran of Notre Dame and Bergan, Tom Menger, just heading out the door.
And I see another familiar face over there to the right of this round table, it's Andrew who we met when we went to Mango a few months ago. That's Luke seated on the other side of the table. Andrew's a teacher here and Luke's a student teacher. They said I could eat my lunch at their table and so I plopped it down and had a seat.
And here's my lunch from Cyd's, I got the turkey burger and sweet potato fries. It looks really good and I love the char marks on the bun!
The turkey burger was so good! It had some kind of sauce on it and the bun was bakery fresh, so tasty!
After I ate my lunch I took a few more photos of the lounge. This is a comfortable corner!
Coffee talk, I'm feeling a little verklempt over here! Talk amongst yourselves.
Check it out, MBIP pal, Phil Luciano made the bulletin board in here!
There's the faculty fridge over there, let's see what's inside...
Lots of liquid and condiments in here, kind of similar to the MBIP fridge, but there's no beer in this one.
After lunch I snapped a shot of the Notre Dame kitchen area.
There's the front commons area where the kids are finishing up lunch and getting ready for the afternoon classes.
And on my way out, I ran into my favorite teacher from this high school, Cathy Curtis! Cathy taught here when I went to Bergan and I worked in the drug store at Junction City and she worked at the book store two doors down, so we saw a lot of each other in those four years. It was great to see her again. Thanks to Randy and everyone at Notre Dame for yet another successful and somewhat awkward edition of, "Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?" We'll see you all tomorrow!
