Yesterday’s post on going to Tremont and taking a tour of that town was inspired by a post I put up last November about going to Lacon, Illinois. One place I didn’t get to go to in that Lacon post is a place I’ve been meaning to go to for a long time, Club LaCon. I just like the sound of it and I found out that there’s a bowling alley in the same building and that makes it even more intriguing. So that’s the plan for this evening and we’re going to be joined by a special guest star...
And I’m guessing that’s tonight’s special guest star behind the door, none other than...
Amber! Amber’s become a really good friend of mine and the most regular featured player here at MBIP. So much so that a commenter suggested Monday (second comment from the bottom of the comments section) that we start an Amber Bock drinking game. Every time Amber appears on MBIP, you have to drink a bottle of Amber Bock. So go stock up and let the games begin, here’s beer number one!
And here's beer number two! Cheers!
After a couple of beers at MBIP World Headquarters we are off and rolling towards Lacon, Illinois.
Here we are at Club LaCon, so far it's everything I hoped it would be. It's got old school charm right at the front door!
Inside of Club LaCon you're greeted by duck imagery and a faux fireplace. Nice!
There's a couple of dining areas in here, but Amber and I chose to sit at the bar.
To the left is Ev, who's been the hostess here for 22 years and to the right is Jessica who's the manager of Club LaCon. Nice to meet both of them!
Yet another Jessica was doing double duty waitressing and bartending and serves us up a couple of beers.
The two beers on tap are both light beers, Miller and Budweiser.
This side dining room can be rented out for parties and Ev told us the Lacon Rotary club has dinners in here.
This is the main dining room off to the left of the bar.
And speaking of the bar, there's Amber at the end of it. For those of you keeping score with the MBIP Amber drinking game, time for beer number three!
Land O' Lakes butter alert!
We had a quartet of offerings from the dinner menu, from top left: a corn fritter, onion rings, chicken gizzards and a combination ravioli and spaghetti entree. The food was so good and the onion rings are something MBIP pal and Contributor, Scott Turley needs to try. They give Perdue's a run for the money! It was a wonderful and tasty dinner!
Ev brought out the person who prepared this four course feast for us, Chef Brittany. Wonderful job, Brittany, thanks for a fabulous meal!
Time for the bowling portion of the evening at Lacon Lanes, which is handily located next door to Club LaCon in the same building.
This is a cool, vintage bowling alley with five lanes to bowl in.
There's a bar in here too, so we decided to wet our collective whistles before we start hurling bowling balls down the lanes.
The bar is pretty full, but we found a couple of seats at the far corner.
Here's bartender Barb uncorking a beer for Amber.
Spot, Tina and Rick were seated next to us and it turns out we have some friends in common, which of course leads us to this. Great to meet them and it was fun chatting with them at the bar.
Shortly after I got my shoes at the counter from Jerry I made a frightening discovery...
Amber has come not only with her own bowling ball, she has her own winged bowling shoes too! I think I'm being hustled here!
Time to let the bowling action begin. Amber set up the electronic score card and we are off and rolling!
Of course the ball return is the ever-popular and reliable Brunswick 2000.
Amber kicked my ass in the first game and to prove she takes no prisoners...
The hair goes up and...
My ass gets kicked again! It's a fuzzy shot, but the final score is 123 to 67. And for those of you playing the MBIP Amber drinking game, I think you're in double digits by now so good luck with that! Thanks to Amber for hanging out with me and to everyone at Club LaCon and Lacon Lanes for a really fun night out on the town in Lacon, Illinois! We'll see you all tomorrow!
