Live, From East Peoria, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, The Silver Bullet and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host, all the way from East Peoria...The Silver Bullet!
One of the things I love about doing this blog is all the different people I meet and make friends with. I met Tori last week at the final night of the Pizza Inn and it turns out we have friends in common and I had a nice time hanging out with her and her husband, Dick. This week while trying to decide where to go for my weekly cheeseburger, Tori left this comment on facecrack and made my decision easy...
And so it's off to East Peoria we go!
Here we are, this place used to be called The Silver Bullet Too, because there used to be a Silver Bullet in Peoria, but now that's not there anymore, so they got rid of the "Too" somewhat, the ghost of the word is still up there, if you look closely.
As I was taking pictures of the outside of the Silver Bullet, John, Laurie and Kevin were walking towards the bar. At first I thought I was having a full-blown acid flashback and then they told me that they were covered in glow in the dark corn meal because they had just come from a race. Okay! I told them I'd see them inside.
Budweiser and Burgers: This pretty much sums up my Saturday nights! Let's go inside and see what's happening.
I spy a seat right there at the corner of the bar, let's go snag it.
Here's Pearl, serving me up a Budweiser with a beautiful smile.
I told you we'd see these guys inside and just like magic, here they are! Cheers!
A shot of the taps for the Spike-O-Rama Rating.
There's a game room off to the side of the bar...
Here's the pool table and behind that is...
A tail-gate for a pre-football party! I'm not sure why that "Exempt" sign is there, but I'm glad it is for some strange reason.
There's lots of tables behind the bar in the main room for dining and relaxing.
A giant score card hangs on the wall and it looks like Silver Bullet is winning! Hooray!
Cubs fans beware, it appears to be a Cardinals bar in here.
Here's a lone booth bathing in magenta light.
A row of booths line the far wall opposite the bar. Hey, I think I see a familiar face over there...
It's Tori who was hanging out with her friends Heidi and Jamie (A.K.A. Joan.) I joined them at their booth and we had a great conversation about Peoria, high school, bars around the area, New York and the old Rathskellar in Washington. Really cool people and I was honored to be able to hang out with them.
The had already eaten, but I still needed to order my cheeseburger, so I checked out the menu and ordered...
The Patty Melt. Wow, that marble rye bread looks fantastical! As a side note, I've always thought that "Patty Melt" would be a good porn name.
I dressed the Patty Melt up with a generous slathering of mustard and pepper and it's time to take a bite.
It was delicious! Love that marble rye bread! After the burger, another beer and some more talk, Tori, Heidi and Jamie hit the road...
So I went back to the bar and met Tony, who it turns out is one of the chefs at the bar and he's the one who cooked up my Patty Melt! I thanked him for a job well done and he pointed something out to me behind the bar...
A Little Nut Hut! I keep talking about doing a Little Nut Hut tour, but there's so many it might take two nights to do that!
Obligatory bathroom mirror shot! See you all tomorrow.
My Cheeseburger
I got the Patty Melt which was served up on Marble Rye bread, with Swiss Cheese and a generous supply of grilled onions on top. The burger was savory and the Marble Rye bread really made the Patty Melt special. A delicious burger!
I didn’t take notes about the menu, but it’s pretty much your standard burgers, potato skins and wings pub grub. But the Patty Melt was a notch above your standard pub grub, so if you go there, that’s what I’d suggest!
Cheeseburger Rating
Three Wimpy’s, a delicious and wonderful Patty Melt, plus it’s a great porn name, so it’s got that going for it.
