Well, Christmas came and went by in a flash and today I had to go back to work after having a rare two days off in a row! Speaking of two, it’s that time of week to go and have two beers and tonight I’ve decided to check out a bar that I’ve never been to called, The Brass Rail on Farmington Road. To the MBIP mobile!
Off we go, into the wild black yonder of the night.
And here we are at the Brass Rail. It's kind of dark out here and none of the signs are lit up...
There's just one neon light in that window and the parking lot is empty. Uh oh, it appears to be...
Closed. Motherfucker. That's weird for a Thursday night, maybe it's a holiday thing.
Okay, time to improvise! I decide to head towards my home turf and hit a bar that's almost within spitting distance of my apartment.
Khaki Jack's! We haven't been here since I got a cheeseburger here back in February. Wow, can't believe it's been that long! Khaki Jack's was bar # 108 on the 365 Bar Crawl. Memories!
According to the sign, they are indeed open...
So let's go in and get a double dose of beer!
Okay, this is more like it! Right off the bat I see an open stool at the corner of the bar and some familiar and friendly faces inside of Khaki Jack's.
Here's Pete, who's a regular at the bar. I always enjoy talking to Pete about music and he told me that he checks out the blog on a daily basis, which I always love to hear!
And here's another regular, Reggie, on the left with Louie on the right. Louie told me that his nickname is "Detroit Louie," so I asked him if he was from Detroit. "No, I'm from Ohio," he told me. Well, that makes perfect sense...in a little place known as... Bizarro World! Louie also told me I need to fix my sideburns, so that's today's project after I put up this post.
Okay, time for beer number one, served up by bartender John. You can tell this guy is ready to give the two-finger salute!
Things are looking festive behind the bar with the lit up Christmas trees and a tiny little Santa amongst the booze bottles.
And not one, not two, but three "Christmas Story" lights on this side of the bar. Careful, they're fragile!
These lights illuminate the bar and hang under the tin ceiling.
Here's a shot of the highly polished bar from the other end of the room.
There's a large dining area opposite the bar with wooden tables and chairs.
Comfortable marble-topped booths line the walls back here.
Australian flags hang over the dining room in the rafters overhead.
And there's buckets of free peanuts all over the place in here!
Which means somebody's got to sweep up all the peanut shells on the floor and that somebody is...
Pretty Joni who's got a smile that lights up the room!
And there's even a peanut on the wall! Why hello Mr. Peanut, I just ate about 27 of your relatives. They were delicious.
I call this photo, two beasts and a beauty. Reggie and Pete pose for the MBIP camera with Stephanie, who turns out to be the mother of Cramer, from Kenny's Westside Pub! And so as much as I hate to do this, it's time to cue up, "It's A Small World After All." Sorry about that!
And check it out, here's the esteemed owner of Khaki Jack's Tony Moreschi! The last time Tony was on this blog was back in May when Peoria Hot Dog Wars had just begun. Great to see him again and hopefully he can hang out again soon!
And the second beer is served up with the traditional MBIP two-finger salute by John! We'll see you all tomorrow!
