Two Beers and A Butch’s Pizza @ The Red Barn

Yesterday we toured Butch’s Pizza in Morton, Illinois and after the tour I sampled some of their tasty pizza with our tour guide, Tim Carey. I told Tim that as much as I like them at home, they always taste the best at a bar with a cold beer or two. I asked Tim and his brother, Steave where was the first tavern they sold Butch’s Pizza to and they weren’t quite sure, but they both agreed that The Red Barn was one of the first. That’s perfect, seeing that The Red Barn is one of the rotating tavern stops here at MBIP. Let’s make tracks and go get some Butch’s Pizza and a couple of cold Budweisers over at The Red Barn.

The work night is over and so it's off we go, cruising at a moderate 25 miles per hour on Main Street.

And here we are at one of the MBIP regular stops, The Red Barn.

Let's go in and see what's going on inside.

4b. hello_nov8.jpg

Well, there's a familiar face greeting us behind the bar...

5. jenwithpizza_nov8.jpg

It's Jenny, the pretty bartender who we met all the way back in February. It's great to see her again, and look, she's armed with a Butch's pizza! Perfect!

6. oven_nov8.jpg

Into the oven it goes.

7. before_nov8.jpg

Here's the "before" picture, I can't wait for the "after" picture because I'm starvin' like Marvin over here!

8. crew_nov8.jpg

This is the crew at the bar assembled for this Butch's Pizza Party, from left: Jim, Bill and Tom. Jim's been featured here on the blog before and he's known in The Red Barn as, "Nine O'Clock Jim," because he's been coming in here at 9PM on the dot since 1988. They set their clocks by Jim in here.

And here's Fletch who was hanging out at the end of the bar.

10. my view_nov8.jpg

Okay I'm back at my perch at the bar and here's the view from where I sit. Two of my favorite things behind the bar are...

11. nutthutt_nov8.jpg

The Nutt Hutt, which Jim told me just got refurbished a week ago...

12. spuds_nov8.jpg

And the lit up Spuds MacKenzie figure, Bud LIght's original party animal!

13. justabouttime_nov8.jpg

Looks like it's just about time to enjoy some Butch's Pizza!

14. aftershot_nov8.jpg

Looking delicious! There's nothing like the sight and smell of a Butch's Pizza fresh out of a bar oven.

15. aftershot_nov8.jpg

This pizza lasted about 3 minutes and four seconds at the bar before it was totally scarfed down. Best bar food in the world!

16. saltywatermemon_nov8.jpg

After the pizza, Jenny dared me to try a shot of this Salty Watermelon liquor. She said it was something that was...well...a little, "unique" tasting. I took her up on it, hey, I'll try anything once and usually twice!

17. smelling_nov8.jpg

First I took in a smell of the fragrance of Salty Watermelon...

18. whewe_nov8.jpg

Oh my!

19. downthehatch_nov8.jpg

It's now or never, down the hatch it goes...

20. ecccch_nov8.jpg

I think this picture tells the whole story! Salty Watermelon shots are one dollar, but for two bucks, they'll hide the bottle and you'll never have to think about it again!

21. graffiti_nov8.jpg

After that shot, we started talking about the graffiti on the wall and Jenny pointed out her favorite which is over here on the wall behind this booth.

22. dick_nov8.jpg

"The Bartender On March 4th, 2012 Was/Is a total Dick!" Ha! This person needs to quit holding back and tell us how they really feel!

23. sean_nov8.jpg

And check this out, look who's name is carved into the table at this booth, MBIP pal and owner of Kenny's Westside Pub, Sean Kenny! It turns out that Sean is Jenny's cousin. Which means we have to cue up, It's A Small World After All. Sorry about that!

The final beer of the evening is served up with the traditional two finger salute. Cheers and we'll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let's be careful out there!

You know I heard her call my name,
Least, I think that's what she said.
Surely I'm the correlation that's gonna cause her shame,
So, what's she doing in my bed?
