Motherclucker! 13 Months Of Chicken: Week Number Nine @ Thanh Linh

by MBIP

One of my favorite restaurants in Peoria is Thanh Linh. They have an extensive menu of Vietnamese styled dishes and many of them are chicken based, so it’s a no brainer to stop in for a chicken lunch for week number nine of our chicken tour. And we have a special guest star joining us today, so let’s begin week number nine in our poultry parade!

it’s a wonderful cloudy day as we head towards Main Street, where Thanh Linh has been operating for years out of this building.

They’re Peoria’s only authentic Vietnamese restaurant and I love the food in here and there’s lots of chicken selections to choose from. So let’s go in and begin week number nine of our 13 month finger-lickin’ chicken tour!

There’s always a big crowd for lunch in here and while they get our table prepared, I’ll take some photos of the restaurant.

There’s two dining rooms and this is the front room.

The walls are decorated with Vietnamese photos and artwork.

Our table is located in the side dining room and we’re sitting at table number 16. I’m early as always but we’ll soon be joined by our special guest star!

There’s a lunch time buffet that happens daily in here and there’s a nice variety of food to sample in the buffet line along with all the fortune cookies you want!

As promised, here’s our special guest star, my friend Chelsie Tamms. Chelsie has a Peoria based business called Lettering Works and you can check out her website here and the facecrack page here. Chelsie started her business after graduating from Bradley and she designs a variety of lettering-based Peoria products which are sold at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and the Peoria Airport. She also does custom design services for businesses, branding, community development, and causes in addition to publishing two books!

She’s taking part and showing her artwork in two local events coming up, the first being the Regional Alumni Invitational Exhibition Opening at the Prairie Center of the Arts. And the second is a show at the Foster Gallery titled “Pressing for Change” that is work of the Peoria Print Club which deals with themes of social justice.

Chelsie is also designing a poster for an event which I’m going to be presenting and I’ll be revealing that in about a month, so stay tuned!

Her latest creations are Peoria keychains and she brought two of them for me to our lunch. Very cool, thanks Chelsie! Now it’s time to get back to MBIP business and make a chicken selection.

We decided to split an order of Chicken Egg Rolls and for my main course I thought I’d try the Vietnamese Chicken Curry. I’ve never had that here and it sounds delicious!

And through the magic of these here interwebs, the chicken egg rolls have arrived already! The egg rolls were really crispy on the outside and filled with spicy chicken and vegetables and the dipping sauce was slightly sweet and complimented them perfectly. A nice start to this chicken based lunch!

Chelsie ordered the Chicken Pad Thai for her main course and as you can see, it’s quite a generous portion! She said it was delicious and I took a photo of her enjoying it,but the MBIP Camera fuzzed out the shot. Sometimes I hate the MBIP Camera! Hate, hate, HATE it!

This is my main course, the Vietnamese Chicken Curry. It’s housed in a large bowl and this portion is huge too! Both Chelsie and I agreed that we’d be having leftovers from our lunch for dinner! This dish is so tasty and delicious! The chicken is very tender and flavorful and the carrots and potatoes add a nice flavor to the mix. It’s slightly spicy and the coconut milk adds an underlying sweetness to the dish. I loved it!

After lunch, Loc, who owns Tanh Linh stopped by and said hello and let me take his picture, since our waitress was too shy to have hers taken! We thanked Loc for a wonderful lunch and for operating a wonderful local Vietnamese-styled restaurant here on Main Street! Thanks to Chelsie for joining me for lunch and stay tuned for more information on the MBIP event that she’s designing a poster for!

Chicken Rating

Three and a half Dixie Chickens—There’s a lot of chicken choices on Tanh Linh’s menu and I highly suggest the Vietnamese Chicken Curry, it’s fabulous!
