Unless you’ve been under a rock with your eyes firmly in the shut position, you probably know that this weekend marked the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival that happened on August 15-18 in 1969. It’s been all over the newspapers, magazines, TV and of course the internet. So I figured, what the hell, I might as well join in!
Below are seven links to online articles about the Woodstock Festival including photos and some fun facts and stories you may not have heard about.
And then below that are the coming attractions to yet another abbreviated week here at MBIP!
Woodstock Timeline - I never knew that Woodstock started in March of 1968 with a newspaper ad for a sitcom!
Photos of Woodstock 1969, on Its 50th Anniversary - These are great photos of the three day festival and my favorite is number 14 of the woman and her pet monkey. I wonder if they’re both still around today?
12 Facts About Woodstock For Its 50th Anniversary - Jimi Hendrix got an $18,000 paycheck out of playing at the festival. Are you wondering what everyone else got? Well look no further than the next entry!
Here’s how much each artist earned from playing Woodstock - Here’s the entire list of what everyone got paid for playing at Woodstock. The band Quill was the bottom of the barrel and got $375 bucks. If you’re like me, you’ve never heard of Quill. Here’s their complete existing set from Woodstock I found on YouTube.
“I can dig it” Most comprehensive article(s) ever re: Pete Townshend vs Abbie Hoffman at Woodstock? - This is a compilation of different articles and audio videos of when Abbie Hoffman made the mistake of trying to take the stage when The Who were playing at Woodstock. Pete Townshend El Kabonged him with his guitar and threatened to kill anyone else who dared to step on stage with them. So much for peace, love and understanding!
Woodstock 1969 Headliners: Where Are They Now? - Many are dead, but The Who are still touring with just Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry remaining from the original line-up. Abbie Hoffman killed himself back in 1989, so he won’t be bothering them anymore!
Here’s what’s coming up on MBIP next week!
Wednesday: Just like Woodstock, one of my favorite local businesses in town has turned 50 years old! Technicraft had a Golden Anniversary party last week and I was there. I got photos of the party, some vintage photos of the business in days gone by, gave them presents and there was cake!
Once again this week the blog will be on hiatus for a few days while I work on the upcoming Marty Monologues show. I’ll be taking Thursday through Saturday off, but we’ll back next Sunday for a full week of uninterrupted blog posts.
Have a fabulous and fun Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
