Back in November of 2013, I went back to take a look at the building that used to be Fleming Potter on Adams Street. I worked in that building from 1980 to 1993 and it was kind of sad to see it just sitting there vacant. Well all that changed last year as the building was bought and it’s being transformed from a printing company to a downtown apartment/loft space. I went there about six months ago last April and they were just starting to gut the building and I got some photos. Yesterday I went back to check up on the progress and that progress report and photos are below. So come along as we visit the building that used to be Fleming Potter for the third time here on MBIP!
Here’s three photos of Fleming Potter: The top one is from 1966 back when Adams Street was a black and white world. The second photo is from my trip there in 2013 when the building was just standing vacant on the corner and the third one is from last April as renovations had begun and the transformation from Fleming Potter to Persimmon Lofts was starting.
This is the building as it stands today and the renovations are happening fast and furious!
I took some different angles of the building and you can see the scaffolding and the windows are being put in before old man winter hits.
There’s the front door, but I’m using to going in the entrance near the back right down the sidewalk from the front of the building. The door is open and there’s the room that was once the Fleming Potter lunch room. Let’s walk up the stairwell...
And there’s our tour guide for the day, Trevor Holmes. Trevor is the owner of Scout Properties which owns the building along with The Becker Company. And my dad, Jerry, has come along for the tour as he worked here for years too (he got me my job there!) Okay, if you’d like to refresh your memory as to how it looked in April, just click here. And now let’s take a look at how it’s shaping up in here now!
This is the first floor where the art department (where I worked for 13 years) was and the plate room was on the other side of the floor. It’s all been divided up into studio and one bedroom apartments and they’re all in various stages of being complete. There’s 44 units total in the building and you can go and look at them now (contact information is at the end of the post). Pre-leases are available for the building.
Here we go up to another floor and the transformation in the building is amazing. The windows are all going in this week and it’s got quite a view of downtown Peoria!
Here we go up another flight of stairs where there’s more lofts and apartments being built and fine-tuned. I mentioned the view in the last caption, but check it out up here, it’s really beautiful! Trevor said the apartments and lofts will be completely ready by this December. If you’d like to read more about the building, just click right here.
Down here on the ground floor, there’s just one remnant from the old Fleming Potter days, part of the front door!
And here’s an obligatory shadow shot of the door. Thanks to Trevor for the tour and we’ll be back for a full preview once the apartments are completed! Stay tuned and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
